Life is too short for regrets, so here are some tips and suggestions on how to avoid feeling remorseful after your recent mall foray.

Always check the store’s exchange and refund policy. Buying clothes can be quite tricky — sometimes, some pieces are a hit-or-miss. If the store doesn’t have an exchange and refund policy, you’re better off not buying anything from that place.

When buying shoes, make sure to do so in the afternoon. That’s because one’s feet expands as the day goes on, so you’ll need a pair that can accommodate your REAL shoe size. Once you’ve slipped on both shoes, take 2-3 minutes to walk around in them. They might feel comfortable on your first try, but the real test is walking — or even running or speed walking — in a pair.

When in doubt, don’t buy the item. If you find yourself waffling between two colors or two pieces, go with your gut. However, if your instincts are silent, take it as a cue: Don’t get either item.

If the store doesn’t allow you to try on clothes, spare yourself the hassle of second-guessing and don’t attempt to buy dresses or bottoms. Shirts, especially loose, baggy ones, are okay — you can always alter them or tie the ends into a knot for a funky flair if you’re not happy with how they look when worn “normally.”
